Does the rebel flag offend you? history?

Are you for the rebel flag?

i live in a red neck town it is hard to get away from the rebel flag. people ether have it on there cars, or hanging up as a flag on the outside of there house. if is not on an object it is on people like on tee shirts, what no. so i pretty much see the rebel flag were ever i go!

now, here is a history lesson for you the north was more advance than the south. with technological it is still that way today. the south were more into plantations, the south did not want to change there way of life. the north wanted the south to change become more into the factories. so it was just not about slavery the civil war but it was a factor in it. also the north was more educated than the south, it is still that way till this day!

now when you see the rebel flag what do you think of? im just not for rebel flags they represent the south when we had slaves, were ignorant. i just don't understand why people wear it so proudly why there so proud to be red necks. why cant we have something else to represent the south, or do we? like a flower thats only native to the south or a gator! alligator only live in Florida why cant that be the sign of the south?Does the rebel flag offend you? history?
I like the rebel flag.

It helps me identify the 'tards, like an early-warning system.

"Rebel Flag Detected! Probability of Nimrod Approaching: High! Arm all weapons!"
it's supposed to mean whites are superoir to all races and more bullshit. I dont give a dam.

in fact i think it looks gayDoes the rebel flag offend you? history?
I personally don't like it, but rednecks wear it so that they can be proud to be what the consider an American American.
I am not offended. People who display it are trying to hold onto their historical past. I do understand why Afro Americans hold it in contempt since it is a reminder of slavery.
The Rebel Flag offends me not because people have pride in there Southern Heritage. But, for what it means to many people. Black people see the Flag and remember about Slavery and oppression. I know that all people in the South did not own Slave's but its still offensive to many.
I find it sadly amusing. I've even seen it in Newfoundland, of all places, where slavery never existed.

I have generally accepted that today it's more of a redneck badge. I don't like it, but I don't make a stink over it.

separating the flag from slavery is something of a whitewashing (no pun intended) of its history. I think a genuinely non-racist redneck symbol would be better, but it's not for me to say.

I do not believe it should be part of any governmental emblem (except at a genuine historic site, for clearly related purposes. Like the way the UK Union Jack is used at an HBC trading post in WA state).
it doesn't offend me but it would if i was african american. many people just have them to be a rebel to society.
You need to do some research on the subject before you form such an opinion. The Souths so called rebel flag was actually a war flag, it did not stand for slavery. The men who fought for the states rights of the south didn't own slaves they were fighting to protect the land they lived in. The war was not fought for slavery but to keep the union together. Go look at the resolution passed in the united states congress in 1861 that straight out said the war was not about slavery but to protect the union. Congress passed this in the early part of the war so no oneeveryone would know where they stood.

The confederate battle flag should offend no one because it was not a flag of slavery. Many people say they hate it because the KKK and the Neo Nazis use it . If this is so them they must also hate the American flag because they use it also.

As I said at the beginning do some research before you down or

hate something. You may be surprised to find out that between

63,000 and 90,000 thousand free blacks fought for the confederacy, I don't think they would have been there if the war was over slavery.

Everyone agrees that slavery was and is bad and the south had started to give slaves land to sharecrop with the former masters so both could make money.
What most people identify as the rebel flag was in actuality a battle flag (having undergone several revisions). The flag to me represents the pride of fighting for what you believe in. The South was not fighting to preserve slavery. Instead, they were fighting because the North was infringing on their rights and doing much to put the South down and keep it there. The flag symbolizes those that took a stand for themselves and helped to shape our nation into what it is today.
