Why would the residents of Jamestown have wanted slaves?



A. Many were eager to mimic the success of sugar plantations in the Caribbean.



B. There was already a severe labor shortage in the North American colonies.



C. Many were used to the institution of slavery, which was popular in England.

The answer is b) There was already a severe labor shortage in the North American colonies. When the colonist first arrived in the New World, plantations were run by indentured servants from England based on a contract of usually 2 years and then were free to do as they pleased. However white men from England were having a hard time adapting to the conditions and didn't appreciate how they were treated after serving their contracts demonstrated by Bacon's Rebellion.Jamestown slave question?
