Where are the best suburbs to live around Houston Texas and why?

My Company is transferring me to Houston this coming July, I currently live about 25 miles south of Los Angeles in Fullerton.

Got a chance to check out a few places last week and was suprised how nice the area was. I really liked the League City/Clearlake Area, Sienna Plantation was pretty nice, Sugarland was fun but not really my style. Looking for a new home $280-320k range, four bedroom one story. Going to be working in the downtown area and yes I know all about bad traffic living in the L.A./O.C. area. Wife and I are both in our mid-thirities with two little ones 2 and 6yrs.Things to consider

low crime, great schools, clean area with new homes, good shopping %26amp; restaurants close by.with lots of recreational activities,we have a speed boat and jet skis,Lake Houston, Gulf area. Im coming back out in early May to look at the North side of the city. I have been told that Kingwood is a very nice area. Would love to hear from Native Houstonians %26amp; transplants from the East and West CoastsWhere are the best suburbs to live around Houston Texas and why?
You should take a look at the Humble/Kingwood area its very pretty. I also like Clearlake, if you like the water a very good choice lots of fun stuff close to NASA as well. Houston resident for the past six years. l Love it here!!
No way a 4 bedroom in Rice is $320K or inside the loop, its more like mid $500's... I wouldn't do Montrose or inside the loop if you have little ones.. Clear Lake is nice Taylor Lake, Friendswood, or even the Galleria... If you like the water I would go Clear Lake, great schools, the area is nice, and you are by the water...

I lived in Houston for 7 years, now live in DC and have lived in San Fran-did Houston real estate as well...Where are the best suburbs to live around Houston Texas and why?
The Woodlands is a spot you might want to check out.

Its a little ways out of Houston but the commute really isn't that bad.

Great Public Schools, Low Crime rate, loads of shopping, and lots of festivals and entertainment for family. Taxes are lower in The Woodlands than the Houston area too:o)

This website should answer most of your questions about the area.

Good Luck:o)
look in the newer part of katy i live there and teh schools are good and its not a far drive to down town if you take the toal road and the schools are realy good!! a good neighooborhood is cinco ranch grand lakes or grayson lakes theyre zoned to great public schools
if you have that kind of budget i would look in montose, or west university place. the area around bellaire and stella link road is nice too.
Lady kemm is right but the West University Place, River Oaks, Montrose Bellaire area can be pricey so look thoroughly.

Crime happens everyday in Houston some day where some time. Buy a gun %26amp; get a burglar alarm for your house.
Clear Lake, Cy-Fair, Woodlands, Kingwood, Humble. All have good schools. Lake Conroe isn't too far and all have really nice homes as well.
