Any ideas on how i can change this to make it better?

Many of you may not have heard of Harriet Tubman but she played a vital role in history and here鈥檚 why. She was born into slavery in about 1820 with the name of Araminta but she later changed it to Harriet. She had a very tough childhood; she was beaten and received a fractured skull as a result from protecting a fellow slave.

Still, Harriet maintained her strong spirit. She was desperate to be free from slavery and was determined to escape for good. Eventually, Harriet did manage to escape and even though her brothers were frightened and immediately returned to the sugar plantations, she carried on nevertheless. She followed the North Star to get to her freedom, and when she finally arrived she went back straightaway to rescue her family along with 300 other slaves.

Harriet managed to change at least 300 lives of slaves who would never have experienced freedom if it wasn鈥檛 for Harriet. Everyone was very grateful and she was known as the 鈥楳oses of her people鈥?because her actions were just like his.

In helping slaves find freedom it showed that all people had the right to freedom and that the abolition of slavery was only fair.

You may not have known who Harriet Tubman was and what she did for slaves, but you cannot argue that what she did during her time was an achievement not only for her, as a woman, but for everyone. Would you risk your own life for the life of others?

thanks xoxoAny ideas on how i can change this to make it better?
I would change the sentence that starts: "Harriet managed to change . . ." just because of the repetition.

Harriet managed to change all those lives who would never have experienced freedom if it wasn't for her.

Araminta, but [comma added]

and even though --%26gt; even though

and when she finally arrived --%26gt; and, when she finally arrived,

Very well written otherwise. Perhaps this link will help you better understand conjunctions like: and, but, even though %26amp; when.
