Help me with my paragraph about the causes in the South over secession?

The North and the South had very different interests and desires. The North was tied with industry and set up roads, railroads, and canals. The south had more desire for slave labor and agriculture. A conflict started when the U.S. started opening the public lands of the West because Congress needed to make a balance of what would be free and slave states. The development of these lands were opposed in the South because it aided the free farmer and not the slave plantation owner. Another conflict developed over the tariff. The North wanted a high tariff, but the South wanted a low tariff to trade cotton with countries for inexpensive foreign goods. After that, another disagreement developed over the right of the federal government to prohibit slavery in the West. The number of free states kept increasing and it scared the South. They even threatened secession as a means of protecting state's rights..................................鈥?CAN U HELP ME? I KNOW ITS HORRIBLE, BUT CAN YOU HELP MAKE IT MORE DETAILED OR MORE INTELLIGENT SOUNDING? LOLHelp me with my paragraph about the causes in the South over secession?
The economy of the North and the South varied greatly. In the North the economy was based upon industry, road building, railroads and canals. On the other hand, the economy of the South depended upon slave labor on the large cotton and sugar plantations.

The population of the United States grew rapidly and many moved west in search of land for farming. Some wanted to bring slavery with them and others did not. So Congress had to decide which areas would be free states and which would be slave states. (think Missouri Compromise)

Most of American industry was located in the northern states, but the economy of the southern states were based on exporting raw materials and the importing of manufactured goods. The North wanted a high tariff, but the South wanted a low tariff to trade cotton with other countries for inexpensive foreign goods. Then another disagreement developed over the right of the federal government to prohibit slavery in the West. The number of free states kept increasing and this worried South. They even threatened secession as a means of protecting state's rights....

I hope this helps.

looks gud to me..just make it more fun for someone to read :)Help me with my paragraph about the causes in the South over secession?
1.) The opening of the land at first was not strictly for setting up slave vs free states. Once slavery became a hot issue in the U.S., then it became a race to snatch up the land to create a free state before the south created a slave state.

2.) You also want to mention the election of Abraham Lincoln. This was the final straw for many of the Southerners, also what drove South Carolina to hold the Charleston Convention. Many southern states did not even put Lincoln on the ballot down south because they desperately did not want him to win.

3.) You may also want to consider mentioning the views of Lincoln and the states that left the union. He never considered them a separate entity from the United States. He always considered them part of the United States, just a rebellious group of people living in the U.S. He never officially acknowledged the C.S.A. as a separate country.

4.) You mention the idea of secession as a threat. This is true, but the South had threatened many times before the 1860s to leave, this just gets mentioned more because they actually did at this time.
