What is there to do Nov/Dec in Barbados - read on please -?

The Icelandic volcanic ash ( Eyjafjallajokul = copy/paste - don't ask me to pronounce the name!) cancelled our holiday to your Island in April. We have re-booked for an extended stay from the end of November (21st). We will be doing the usual tourist things but want to know about those less known places and things to do. Are there any special events we should plan to go to - we know about Independence Day on the 30th Nov. We would like to know about things that take us away from the usual tourist events. We are going to be staying on the South coast. We especially love the East/North coast - (a bit like our West coast in Ireland - less the rain of course), so any ideas for places to visit along with the usual tourist lunch at The Atlantis Hotel, a visit to the Andromeda Gds etc would be appreciated. We have read about the "Segway" trips on the North coast - any good? We would love to sample local music/culture and any small festivals - however remote – we will have a hire car for a few weeks. Our adventurous daughter (25) is especially interested in the Aerial Trek Zipline Adventure - Walkes Spring Plantation, Jack-in-the-Box Gully, St. Thomas - any thoughts? - me=Dad, has no head for heights so I will not be taking part!, but I am willing to have a Banks in the café while waiting. We will be travelling the whole Island - so any interesting places not covered by the usual websites - totallybarbados/barbados.org/funbarbados… etc would be welcome. Is Baxter’s Road in Bridgetown safe after dark? We want to sample a few good local rum shops with character and meet the locals.

Thanks to those who answered my last Barbados question - Highly Favoured, Bajan Princess and Yomesmo.

There is the Run Barbados Series if you are going to be here around that time and there is NIFCA.

This actually shows some.

Be careful on the east coast as it is very rough for bathing. I have not tried the Segway trips but it should be great. What you can do is to visit Oistins at night especially on Fridays....that is another culture in itself. Lots of dancing and the atmosphere is good. There is dancing in the open air and at Lexxie's bar so you can go and shake a let to some golden oldies.

You should also try Harrison's Cave as it had recently upgrades and while there you can go to Welchman Hall Gully and then take a drive all through St Andrew...Belleplain, East Coast Road where it is very quiet. Pack a basket and chill out by the beach or in the hills.

Although Baxter's Road is relative safe I would prefer you to go to Oistins will be near you. There are lots of paros (vagrants) that tend to come out at night just to beg. Plus the atmosphere is far better up there. There are far more bars, chairs and facilities for anyone than down Baxter's Road. You could also try St Elmo Place in Moon Town, St Lucy (north of the island). There is lots of food, drinks, karaoke and fun down there.

There is also great atmosphere in 1st Holetown in St James on Sunday nights. Great place to hang out and listen to karaoke. Karaoke is the in-thing so many people flock to hear good singing, drink some drinks and chill out. Ship Inn on Thursdays, Reggae Lounge too and there are all in the Gap. As I think of any other place I will get back to you.

Every Sunday there is a scenic ride by the government Transport Board. The buses leave the Fairchild St Bus Terminal at 2:00 pm. You can pack a picnic basket as the bus will be stopping at different points in the country. The fee is $15 Barbados. You will be able to experience the culture so just park you car near and go for the ride.

I think you should let someone take you to Jack-in-the-box Gully as it is real lonely. Walkes Spring Plantation should have workers there as well as the owner.
Go jetsking, plantations theatre and smoke some Ganja in the hills. What is there to do Nov/Dec in Barbados - read on please -?
Below are a lists of places I think you may like to go to while on your stay here.

Oistins (a nice fish fry with music, dancing, socializing, kareoke etc)

Plantation Theatre ( you can catch a live show with Barbadian dancers and acts there or go to the back in time show there)

Golf (amateur)

Paintball

Harbour Master Cruise (a cruise around the island on a boat with local music, alcohol and food).

Catamaran Cruise (cruise around the island on a catamaran with food and drink and get to swim with the turtles)

St Lawrence Gap ( the nightlife of Barbados)

Sheraton Mall (shopping centre with a food court and a multi-cinema complex consisting of local cinemas and VIP cinema)

The Lion at Gun Hill (part of our history, A Signal Station with a statute of a lion)

Scenic Ride (held every Sunday leaves the Bridgetown Bus Terminal at 2pm for a scenic ride across the island, each week there is a different location and you normal have 2 stops along the way where you can explore and have a picnic)

Adventure Land Tours (takes you on a tour across the island using 4X4 jeeps you can be driven or you can drive ATV similar to the scenic ride but you tend to see more of nature)

Musuem (best place to learn about the history of the country)

The Kensington Oval (cricket stadium if you are from Ireland you must know of cricket and may want to have a tour of it)

Harrison's Cave (a lime stone cave that you can tour)

Garrison Savannah (for horse racing)

National Trust Walk (if you like hiking through tracks and gullies in the heart of nature there is a National Trust Walk every Sunday at a different location across Barbados which starts at 6am. You can get a copy of the booklet from the National Trust which will tell you what dates and where the groups will be walking as well as giving you directions on how to get there)

If I remember anything else I will respond again. Hope that I have been helpful to you in some way.
Except for our Carnival season, most attractions are available all year round :)
