The North and the South had very different interests and desires. The North was tied with industry and set up roads, railroads, and canals. The south had more desire for slave labor and agriculture. A conflict started when the U.S. started opening the public lands of the West because Congress needed to make a balance of what would be free and slave states. The development of these lands were opposed in the South because it aided the free farmer and not the slave plantation owner. Another conflict developed over the tariff. The North wanted a high tariff, but the South wanted a low tariff to trade cotton with countries for inexpensive foreign goods. After that, another disagreement developed over the right of the federal government to prohibit slavery in the West. The number of free states kept increasing and it scared the South. They even threatened secession as a means of protecting state's rights..................................鈥?CAN U HELP ME? I KNOW ITS HORRIBLE, BUT CAN YOU HELP MAKE IT MORE DETAILED OR MORE INTELLIGENT SOUNDING? LOLHelp me with my paragraph about the causes in the South over secession?
