I don't understand this paragraph?

The recent decline in numbers of the Tennessee warbler, a North American songbird that migrates each fall to coffee plantations in South America, is due to the elimination of the dense tree cover that formerly was a feature of most South American coffee plantations.

%26gt;%26gt;songbird that migrates each fall to coffee plantations

are they moving towards coffee plantation or leaving coffee plantation ??

what does migrate to means here ?

%26gt;%26gt;is due to the elimination of the dense tree cover that formerly was a feature of most South American coffee plantations.

that means ....there is no more coffee plantation now in south america.

I don't understand this paragraph?
Migrate means "to move to". Usually words that end in -ate are verbs or actions.

The paragraph is saying that in the past, the Warbler would migrate to these coffee plantations, but now, because the coffee plantation trees are being cut down (remember- most, birds live in trees) that the birds are not migrating there, resulting in probably mating habits and perhaps not as many new birds being born.
"Migrate to" in this case means the warblers fly to South America for the winter. They come back (migrate) to Tennessee in the spring.

"Elimination of tree cover" does not necessarily mean there are no coffee plantations. It means that the big trees on the coffee plantations have been taken down.I don't understand this paragraph?
Yeah, they did make it more complicated than it should be.

The birds migrate to the plantations in SA.

The dense tree cover that is now gone is the reason for the decline in numbers.

They just tried to put too much info into one sentence.
migrate means to move place to place.
