anybody know who was around in the 1650s? - surely there were land records to settle the matter one way or antoher?MY English pal tells me that the North of Eire was not settled at the point of the Plantation of Ulster? ??
If, by Eire, you mean the whole Island of Island then the north was settled by protestants during the Plantation of Ulster. Ulster is, after all, the northern most province of Ireland. This is why even today Northern Ireland (six of the original nine counties of Ulster) is predominantly protestant.
Or, by Eire, do you mean the present day Republic of Ireland? This wasn't really settled by protestants outside the Pale of Dublin.
Or if you mean was the north inhabited at the time of the Plantation of Ulster, then yes it was, by indigenous Irish.MY English pal tells me that the North of Eire was not settled at the point of the Plantation of Ulster? ??
Well it depends on who you are talking about. The north wasn't settled by protestants (who came over from Scotland) until the 1600s but it definitely was inhabited by the indigenous Irish people 1000s of years before that. The evidence can be seen ancient stone monuments like passage tombs similar to England. Also the country 脡ire hasn't existed since 1949 when 脡ire became the Republic of Ireland or just plain Ireland.
