Socially & politically, what were some ways that the colonial South was more advanced than the North?

In colonial America (pre-Revolution), were there aspects of southern, plantation society that was more advanced than northern, New England society? By advanced, I mean more modern characteristics or democratic trades or social equality etc.

Thanks a bunch!Socially %26amp; politically, what were some ways that the colonial South was more advanced than the North?
The Southern Planters had more access to English goods and arts then did the more trade orientated Northern Colonies were a ruffer sort the South was a more gentile society. This would effect the south until the end of reconstruction after the American Civil War.
